We had a joint autumn kick-off with the group of More Than Training Company on Friday 18.8. and then we reflect on the values that describe us. After much deliberation, the values were selected
- Bravely Vulnerable
- We
- Towards Growth
In a previous blog, Jaakko already told about the birth of the "Me" value, and now it's my turn to tell about the last one and, in many people's opinion, perhaps the most boring one - Towards Growth.
I've probably never worked in a company where the value wasn't in one form or another growth, profit or straight up euros. It has not always been recorded so openly, but in the background it has nevertheless been found under a small layer of polished paint. Because of this, my own attitude towards this value was initially very negative - it's not really a value that should be taught to everyone.
Then, however, something clicked in my own thinking. Towards Growth does not mean the same as Towards Profits or Towards Success or Towards Financial Independence. At More Than Training Company, Kothi Kasvu is divided into several, in some places strongly different entities.
- Towards Growth as a team
Jaakko already illustrated this nicely with a story where you are only at the finish line when the last one is at the finish line. This story warmed us up at our joint kick-off and we found that it also describes our own thinking so strongly that we made it its own value, even though it is also linked to the Towards Growth value. So we are not just a collective of lone wolves, but we work together for common growth. A good example of this is also the way we work in various collaborations - nobody here (or anywhere else) knows everything, so we do all of our bigger collaborations as a group, and at the same time we ensure that the learnings are also transferred internally to new people.
- Towards Growth as an individual
We are all entrepreneurs and it is everyone's own responsibility to ensure that we also learn, succeed and promote our own things as individuals. This also requires living the 1st value, "Courageously Vulnerable" as a reality - true growth only happens when a person understands his own weaknesses and strengths. Janne is an excellent example of this for us - he is, after all, a long-term leader and a professional, but despite that, he is interested in me as an individual because he feels that it will help him continue to grow. And that, if anyone, is great to notice even as a younger scientist.
- Towards Growth with customers
We are not just our own lonely group, where we enjoy learning new teachings and spouting related theories, but we do this for our customers and because of them. The customers also pay us for the fact that we can make this journey towards growth together - in the big picture, that means growth for them in many different areas as well, and of course not least significantly there in the very last line of the income statement.
- Towards Growth as a company
Well, okay, yes, we also thought about our own last line. Guilty as charged and so on. We have a strong will and a vision of us as more than a training company, also in the sense that we see opportunities to act genuinely also on the international field in a way that means joint gains - for customers, for us as individuals and of course for the entire company of More Than Training Company. This also gives us a direction as a company - what we need to do quantitatively, to whom we need to do it and what kind of things we need to do with them, so that we can get towards the growth we want.
The best thing about this and our other values, despite all this, is that they are genuinely true. I mean really, according to them we already live in the company, so this list of values is not a to-do note or a card full of wishes to send to Santa Claus, but a description of our everyday life and ways of working together on the same issue. Therefore, we live our values from day to day, week to month, so that together we can be on the way to Growth for everyone, from young people to seasoned veterans.
